County distributing bags and sand – three locations 7a.m.-5 p.m.

The County will continue to run the three locations daily from 7 am to 5 pm, including Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7

The County has opened two depots for residents to obtain sand and bags to help prevent, or reduce, flood water damage.

About 20,000 bags are available at two locations – 15 Coleman St., in Ameliasburgh and at 115 Lake St., in Picton. Residents can fill bags on site, or take bags home to fill with their own material.

Preston Parkinson, Director of Operations, said calls have already come into the County and staff at the Lake Street depot are prepared to remain on site after normal working hours, if they receive calls indicating need.

He also has Quinte Conservation brochures that offer directions and information about creating a sandbag wall.

“We have 10,000 bags here and 10,000 at the Ameliasburgh site,” said Parkinson noting sand has been brought in from the pit on Ridge Road and is in the parking lot for easy access.

Late this afternoon, the County also closed its baseball fields due to the wet conditions and continued rainfall in the forecast.

Both diamonds at the Picton fairgrounds, at Westfall Park in Carrying Place at the regular diamond and T-ball diamond at Roblin Lake Ameliasburgh Park are closed.
