Learn how turbines may impact property values – Dec. 5

CCSAGE is bringing property appraisal expert Ben Lansink to the County for a public information meeting at the Waring House on Wed. Dec. 5, 7 to 9 pm.

Ben has recently completed and released two professional studies of the impact of wind turbines on nearby property values in two areas of Ontario, showing an average loss of 35%.  You can read a newspaper article about the first study here.

Ben will present his findings to date and then take questions from attendees.

Ben Lansink, AACI, P.App, MRICS, is a London-based professional appraiser, with 35  years of experience, who specializes in Diminution in Value analyses.  He has been accepted as an expert witness in many courts and boards.

This topic is important to all County residents, but critical to South Marysburgh and Athol families due to the large number of turbines proposed by wpd Canada and other developers in South County.

Available seating space is limited, so please arrive early.  Admission is free, but a donation to help defray costs would be welcome.

    I believe my appraiser who is neither Lansink nor Hamilton and has no connection one way or another to “green” energy. When he appraised my house in S. Marysburgh earlier in the year, he advised me to expect a 20% to 40% reduction in value if any turbines were constructed – assuming the house could be sold, of course. In the meantime, houses have languished unsold on the market down here – some for close to two years.

    Malcolm Hamilton is a wind energy developer and therefore has a conflict of interest, while having no qualifications as a property appraiser.

    Ben Lansink is a qualified property appraiser and received no compensation for doing these studies.

    Who would you believe?

    @4ourgrandkids… don’t you just hate it when folk are unbalanced! I recently sold my home which had an MPAC assessment of $227,000, an appraisal of $243,000, for $375,000. I purchased my current home for $223,000, it was appraised for $225,000, and the MPAC assessment was $197,000. And as your link asserts you should probably reject the notions of someone like Lansink who has a vested professional interest… if you didn’t your likely to start believing the vested interests of Industrial Wind Turbine developers for gosh sakes!

    For every appraisal there is an equal and opposite appraisal… Let’s have some balance please.
