Four County students receive Loyalist awards

Four Prince Edward County residents were among students who received awards at Loyalist College during the Spring Awards Ceremony.

Bobbi-Jo Robbins, of Picton, won a new award this year, the Bell Canada Bursary. She is a third-year Child and Youth Worker student.

Alexandra DiMaria, of Picton, received a First Generation Bursary. Brittany Nieman, of Picton, won a Rotary Club of Picton Bursary and Andrew Pearson of Wellington, received a CIBC Bursary/

Awards valued at a total of more than $65,000 were presented at the event. Many were provided by the endowment fund for student financial assistance, administered by the Loyalist College Foundation.

Each year Loyalist presents the Student Leadership Award in recognition of the contributions of a full-time student who through his or her commitment to College activities or programs has demonstrated strong leadership skills. Students are nominated for this award by the faculty and staff of the College. This year’s recipients are second-year Business student Chantel Johnston and Business – Human Resources student Elizabeth Kryschuk.

Chantel Johnston is the elected Student Government President for the 2013-14 academic year. She is also active with Enactus Loyalist College, serving as the Project Manager for the H.E.R.C.S. (Helping Entrepreneurs Reach Complete Success) program, focused on educating and guiding members of the military and military families toward entrepreneurial endeavours.

Elizabeth Kryschuk serves as the Student Representative to the Board of Governors for the 2013-14 term. She is a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee and a member of College Council. She is a member of the Loyalist Sustainability Committee and last year, as a member of the Enactus team, she managed the H.E.R.C.S. program, focused on educating and guiding members of the military and military families toward entrepreneurial endeavours. This year, she is the elected President of Enactus Loyalist College. She was instrumental in organizing the 2013 United Way product sale, which generated over $4,800 toward the College’s donation to the United Way of Quinte.
