An Ontario Trillium Foundation grant of $25,700 over 12 months will help Glenwood Cemetery to digitize thousands of documents which include original deeds of burial plots,  death and burial certificates dating back over 120 years.

The Prince Edward County Library & Archives is working in partnership with Glenwood to provide expertise in the digitization process. Following digitization, the original deeds and burial certificates will be stored at the County Archives for long-term preservation and to be more accessible for researchers year-round.

The grant money will also be used to ensure the electronic file of more than 14,000 burial records of the people, who have been interred at Glenwood Cemetery since its opening in 1873, are accessible to the public on the Glenwood Cemetery and Prince Edward County Archives web sites.

Electronic and hard copy access to the burial records will also be made available at the Glenwood Cemetery office and the PEC Archives facility.

The availability of the Glenwood Cemetery burial records in a digital format on a web site will make thousands of pieces of genealogy data accessible to families, genealogists and researchers around the world.
