County Marathon quick, flat and beautiful Boston qualifier

The sunshine held on for many of the runners in the 11th annual County Marathon, though heavy clouds in a threatening sky finally burst into rain.
A cool 12C was fine running weather for Gilbert Kiptoo, of Kenya, 2:26:00.7 who finished in first place with 2:26:00 beating his 2013 first place time (in poor weather) of 2:38:21. He finished second in 2011.
Becky Patten, of Brighton, was the first female to the finish line with a time 2:57:54.6.
There were 163 participants in the full marathon – 101 men, 60 women with an average time of 4:06:26.68. There were 489 participants in the half marathon – 192 men and 295 women – with an average time of 2:34.59.
First in from the half marathon was Lucas Wilson, of Toronto, with a time of 1:22:27.8.
First in from the County was Mark MacCharles in 12th place with 1:31:35.7, with Jeff Green of Wellington, on his heels in 13th with 1:31:51.7. First female was Kasey Walsh, of Peterbourgh 1:32:33.3.
There were 60 participants in the Full Marathon Team Challenge – 17 men and 42 women – with an average time of 4:04:47.36.
The Kids of Steel from Selwyn took first place in 3:03:05.1 The County Crew, from Picton, placed 17th; The Hillier Crew, 19th; Park Sharks, of Bloomfield, 20th; Wentworths Orange, 27th and Blue, 28th; Twisted Blisters from Picton, 29th and Marathon Mommas, from Picton, were 30th. The Wentworth Green team landed in 36th place and the Da Do Run Run team from Picton was 40th.
Other County teams included Lifesavers, Wentworth Team White, Acoustic Girls, Ice Winers, Fitness Powers Girls and Don ‘s Angels.
