PECI students add fun to their run for Terry

terry-fox-peci-2014-csPECI students raised funds and awareness at their annual Terry Fox event. Under a sunny, warm sky last Friday, Panther Pride was out in full force with cream pies fun, walking and running. Staff and students travelled along the Millennium Trail to the golf course and back in honour of Terry Fox and his foundation for research and to fight cancer.

Fox inspired the nation, and the world, through a courageous struggle with cancer. Following the loss of his leg his determination was focused on raising awareness and funds in a run across Canada. He ran some 5,000 kms in 143 days but his Marathon of Hope stopped when cancer invaded his lungs. He died in 1980. The first Terry Fox Run was in 1981. The Terry Fox Foundation, which now organizes the annual runs’ funds, has raised more than $600 million for cancer research – Clara Schaab photos
