Sun shines on 35th fishing weekend

Dave-Dodd-big-fishThe opening weekend of fishing season saw about 4,000 anglers drop their lines in the 35th annual Trenton Kiwanis Walleye World Fishing Derby.

The biggest walleye, weighing in at 12.88 pounds, was caught by Ryan Tropea, who won a boat, motor, trailer and accessories valued at $22,000.
Second place winner Roch Desjardins was close behind, with a 12.8 pound walleye. He won a five night stay at Merland Park valued at $2,500.

The biggest pike, weighing 15.4 pounds was caught by Paul McTaggart, who won a boat, motor and trailer and accessories valued at $7.899. Second place winner was Garnet Armitage for his 14.7 pound catch, winning a two night stay at Merland Park valued at $1,500.

Cameron Peters, the junior walleye winner, received a guided Walleye Charter valued at $700 for his 8.6 pound catch.
Bryce Bush, the junior pike winner, received a Walleye Charter valued at $700 for his 11.9 pound pike.

Dave Dodd, from Peterborough, took advantage of the weekend’s perfect fishing weather.

“I come down every year for this,” he said. “Actually, I won a boat here three years ago – my first time down here.”
