Thirty-five years of delivering hot Meals on Wheels to seniors in Prince Edward is being celebrated by Prince Edward Community Care during 2015 – and with a grant from the Stark Family Fund, the temperature stays hot – or cold, as necessary.

Volunteers deliver to seniors throughout the County in winter and summer, in rain, in snow, holiday or not. Cathie Anderson is new to the County and enjoys being a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

“I was finding myself totally lost after working for a long time in a very responsible position. I enjoy delivering Meals on Wheels partly because I’m new in Prince Edward County and I can now find my way around. Now I even drive like County people. I let cars out at intersections. Also, volunteering is the best way to meet people.”

Debbie MacDonald Moynes, executive director of Community Care says being able to purchase new delivery bags means they’re sure the meals are the right temperature when they arrive at the seniors’ door.

“The bags can also be used to keep the frozen meals cold as they are being delivered to seniors in The County.”

Volunteers are always welcome to become involved and MacDonald Moynes invites people to call the office to start the conversation.

CommCarebuttonThe Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association supports seniors to live at home. Services include hot and frozen Meals on Wheels, escorted transportation to medical appointments and shopping, nutrition and reassurance programs, foot care clinics, caregiver support and respite, homemaking, yard work and home maintenance.

The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the South East Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts.
