AwesomePEC received a record 14 project submissions by the Feb. 1st deadline and will hear the top five pitches at a public Pitch Party at 7pm Feb. 26 at Mount Taber Playhouse in Milford.
For this round, AwesomePEC partnered with Slow Food The County who contributed $1,000 bringing the total grant to $2,000.
Projects had to be food-related and demonstrate how
they could benefit the community. An Awesome PEC project focus is to improve the collective experience of local residents and businesses.
Those invited to make a five-minute pitch include:
• Krysten Cooper The Awesome Slow Food County Community Cookbook
• Shannon Colson The Incredible Edible Shed
• Katie Worobeck Cookery Rookery
• Bree Seeley Black Walnuts Unlimited
• Christine Renaud Feast- the County Free Food Festival
In keeping with the food theme, Glen Wallis of Food to Share will speak at the Pitch Party about his experience using an AwesomePEC microgrant
to help him get a community initiative off the ground.
Awesome PEC, Slow Food support food projects
JAN 17 – The local Awesome PEC Foundation has spiced up its micro-grants this month with matching funding from Slow Food Prince Edward County for food-related ideas.
Submissions for the next Awesome PEC hassle-free micro-grant of $1,000 “for the best ideas to help make the County more awesome” will change to $2,000 for the best food-related ideas to benefit the community. The deadline is Feb. 1, 2016.
AwesomePEC is the Prince Edward County chapter of the Awesome Foundation, a worldwide community started in 2009. At each autonomous chapter, 10 or so volunteer, local, “micro-trustees” pool some of their own money quarterly to help a person or group of people make an idea happen.
They are no-strings-attached micro-grants, the only requirement being is the idea must benefit the PEC community.
“It’s not about personal gain, but about improving the collective experience of local residents and
businesses,” said Peta Shelton, of Slow Food, a grassroots, worldwide movement to counteract fast food and fast life.
