Milford Fair celebrates South Marysburgh school years

The first graduation exercises to be held in the new South Marysburgh Central School, Milford, took place at the school in 1961, following a dinner at the Town Hall. Milford’s Fair Saturday, Sept. 18, will highlight “School Days” this year in tribute to South Marysburgh Public School’s closing in June.
“We are asking anyone who has attended or worked at South Marysburgh School to join us and walk in the parade,” says Susan Creasy on the South Marysburgh School Reunion Facebook page. “It’s a great opportunity to meet up with old… classmates, teachers and colleagues and get reacquainted. The organizers are hoping to have every year represented by former students and staff. Please be at the school by 10:15 a.m. so we can organize graduates and former staff into their respective years and register everyone for a name tag. If you are unable to make it for the parade please join us at the Fair.”

On behalf of the volunteers and supports of the Milford Village Fair I would like to express our appreciation to Countylive for its coverage of our 2010 parade and Milford Fair. The 2010 theme “School Days” was bitter sweet in that it brought back scores of former South Marysburgh school attendees but also marks the final year in which the school will be open.
South Marysburgh students will be well served at the Athol Central Public School in nearby Cherry Valley. We hope that Countylive keeps a watchful eye on the fate of the South Marysburgh school property. Given the needs of the County it would be a shame if the property languished unused for a long period of time.
