The Picton Esso and the Acoustic Grill combined efforts to fundraise in support of the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Outdoor stationary spin bikes, raffles, a barbecue and live music were under way at the gas station. At the Acoustic, was an all day $25 steak special with proceeds of each meal donated to the cause.

Local riders Troy Bellehumeur and Mike Foley will participate in the ride to benefit cancer research at the Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto. The 200km ride (Niagara Falls, Hamilton and Toronto) is set for June 11-12
They will ride with paramedics and emergency service workers known as ‘Paramedics for a Cure.’

Since 2008 the ride has raised more than $138 million for the cancer centre. Funds raised support research, treatment advances, education and new standards of care. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is one of the world’s top five leaders in personalized cancer medicine with a focus on effective, targeted and less toxic treatments for care.

construction-pit-at-libraryThere was no construction downtown Picton on the Victoria Day holiday but there was plenty of action and movement at the kids’ construction zone at the Picton Library.

The zone was created to educate children about construction and allow them to experience hands-on activities related to construction work.

The zone has created in part by donations and support from: Taggart Construction Ltd., Greer Galloway Consulting Engineers, Terra Vista Landscape and Picton Home Hardware.
