Prince Edward Flying Club members hosted two fun and information gatherings with about 120 air cadets who are training this summer at the Central Region Gliding School at Picton Airport.

“Every summer for the past four years, Prince Edward Flying Club has offered a free barbecue lunch to the hungry cadets. This is our way of not only supporting this important summer training program, but also giving the young people a chance to chat with our pilots and learn more about their light aircraft,” said Dave Main, president of the Prince Edward Flying Club.

“The Air Cadets are a terrific group of young people whose interest in aviation was clearly evident in the questions they asked our member pilots. It’s very exciting to see the next generation of cadets, some of whom may go on to earn scholarships to obtain their private pilot’s license.”

The Prince Edward Flying Club also partners with the Canadian Owners Pilots Association (COPA) to encourage youth aged eight to 17 to explore aviation. The COPA for Kids program invites young aviators to get a bird’s eye view of flying from the cockpit of an airplane. The program also involves a ground school and plane walk-arounds. This year’s program is expected to be held late August.
