MP Ellis hosts Veterans Affairs Town Hall meeting

Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis invites all constituents to share views on service, mental health care and support for veterans and their families, at a Town Hall meeting Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 6pm – 7:30pm at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Belleville “Churchill Room” – 407 North Front Street.

“The purpose of the event is to collect opinions and ideas from constituents on issues relating to Veterans Affairs,” said Ellis. “All views will be recorded and compiled into a report and my office will submit the report to The Ministry of Veterans Affairs for consideration in the 2017 federal budget plan. ”

Below are questions the federal government has provided to guide the discussion:

Question #1 – What are examples of specific actions that the Government could take to recognize the contributions of retiring Armed Forces members and those of his or her family in a meaningful way?

Question #2 – How can Veterans Affairs Canada better work with Veterans associations and other stakeholders to find, inform, and assist Veterans in crisis?

Question #3 – Minister Kent Hehr was mandated to “Re-establish lifelong pensions as an option for our injured veterans.” What would this option look like to you?

Question #4 – Receiving financial support can be complicated due to expenditure limitations and overlaps in coverage. How can Veterans Affairs Canada better optimize the allocation of financial support for veterans and their families?

Question #5 – Minister Kent Hehr was mandated to ensure that Veterans Affairs Canada will deliver a higher standard of service and care, and ensure that a ‘one veteran, one standard’ approach is upheld. How should the Minister uphold this approach?

Question #6 – With the well-being of your colleagues in mind, if Veterans Affairs Canada were to move forward with a policy on the use of marijuana for medical purposes, as a stakeholder, what would you like to see incorporated in the policy?

Question #7 – What does “service excellence” mean to you?
