End of construction in sight

UPDATE NOV 4 – More curbs were poured this week and some curb remains to be installed.

Paving will begin on November 10th.
Elizabeth and Bowery streets will be open for the weekend.
Trees are being planted as all the associated hardware is in place.
Sidewalk work was being prepared Friday, starting at Elizabeth Street and heading west.
Line painting is scheduled to take place on the week of November 14th.
On November 21st at 11 am there is a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled to mark the end of construction

There is free parking available at municipal lots on Mary Street, Market Lane, and King Street. We ask residents to respect private parking areas in the vicinity by using these public lots rather than parking in privately owned spots.

As always, all stores will have pedestrian access.

UPDATE Oct 28 –  All mainline sanitary and water mains are now complete with the exception of two tie-ins at Elizabeth Street. This work is scheduled to occur on Monday, Oct. 31st. All underground work is expected to be done by Tuesday, Nov. 1st.

Taggart will be installing the curbs in the final block next Wednesday. Shortly thereafter, they will be able to begin fine grading the roadway to prepare for the asphalt. This should begin late next week and will take approximately two days.

Taggart is expecting the base coarse asphalt to be laid on Nov. 8th, or 9th
Once this is complete, the final coat of asphalt can be placed. This will likely be shortly after Nov. 9
Elizabeth Street and Bowery Streets will be open only on the weekends. A pedestrian walkway will be put in.

The tree subcontractor was excavating this week to prepare each location for the trees to be planted. Trees may start going in on Monday. All of the hardware is finally in.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be planned for sometime in Mid November.

UPDATE: Oct. 21 It is expected that Picton Main Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic between Ross Street and Chapel Street for the remainder of construction, which is anticipated to last another three to four weeks.

It is likely that the segment between Ross and Elizabeth Street will remain closed until the end of the project. Work at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Main Street has delayed the block’s opening to vehicle traffic. This work is not expected to be completed until closer to the project’s completion date. After this work is complete, the municipality will re-assess whether the block can be re-opened in advance of the overall project completion.

There will be a brief disruption to water and wastewater services between Elizabeth and Chapel Street next week as crews connect the new watermain. Affected property-owners will be notified in advance of this disruption.

Construction/landscaping continues

UPDATE OCT 14: Picton Main Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic between Ross and Chapel Street next week. The segment between Ross and Elizabeth Street will be undergoing landscaping work and will remained closed to traffic for an additional week to facilitate this work.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-November.

There is free parking available at municipal lots on Mary Street, Market Lane, and King Street. We ask residents to respect private parking areas in the vicinity by using these public lots rather than parking in privately owned spots.

At the end of next week, the intersection of Bowery and Main Street will be closed to vehicles as crews begin excavation work in the vicinity.

UPDATE SEPT 30: Picton Main Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic between Ross and Chapel Street next week. The segment between Ross and Elizabeth Street is expected to re-open within the next two weeks.

Crews will be removing and replacing trees along Main Street next week, starting between Bridge Street and Ross Street. Some parking spaces in this segment may be obstructed by equipment as the crews complete the work.

UPDATE SEPT 23:

Construction between Ross and Chapel streets

Starting on Monday, Sept. 26th, the construction zone will extend from Ross Street to Chapel Street. Most of this three block section will be closed to vehicle traffic, however the intersections of Ross Street and Bowery Street will remain open for vehicles.

Bridge Street to Ross Street is now open to all vehicle traffic. The segment between Ross Street and Elizabeth Street is expected to remain closed to traffic for an additional two weeks.

There is free parking available at municipal lots on Mary Street, Market Lane, and King Street.

As always, all stores will have pedestrian access.

UPDATE Sept. 18:

Construction Between Ross and Elizabeth streets

Starting on Wednesday, September 21st, construction on Picton Main Street will be confined to the area between Elizabeth Street and Ross Street. The work in this area is expected to take approximately three weeks; this section will be closed to vehicle traffic throughout that time.

On Monday and Tuesday (September 19 & 20th), the length of Picton Main Street between Bridge Street and Elizabeth Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic as crews complete the sidewalks on the south side of the street.

There is free parking available at municipal lots on Mary Street, Market Lane, and King Street.

As always, all stores will have pedestrian access.

UPDATE Sept. 9: Construction continues next week between Bowery and Bridge Street. This portion of Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic, but all stores will remain accessible to pedestrians.

On Monday, September 12th, crews will be digging at the corner of Bridge Street and Picton Main Street. This will cause delays to traffic. There will be extra staff on site directing vehicles. It is expected that this work will begin in the morning and will be completed by early afternoon.
Free parking is available at the municipal lots located on Mary Street, Market Lane and King Street.
Starting on September 19th, the street closure will be reduced to one block: from Ross Street to Elizabeth Street. Again, all stores in this section will be accessible to pedestrians.

Picton Main construction begins again Tuesday, Sept. 6th

SEPT. 4: Construction on Picton’s Main Street will begin again on Tuesday, Sept. 6th.
Temporary traffic lights at the intersection of Main and Paul streets will be reactivated.
For the first two weeks of construction, Picton Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Bowery and Bridge streets. The length of the street will remain open to pedestrians throughout construction.
Taggart Construction Ltd. will distribute notices to affected building owners and tenants before construction begins.

Weekly ‘Picton Main Street Makeover’ construction updates will outline what work will be taking place and in what sections of Main Street. These updates are to help prepare businesses and residents for the upcoming work, and ensure that they have the most up-to-date information essential for planning their day-to-day activities.
