Five to pitch for Awesome PEC grant

Awesome PEC will hear project pitches from five finalists vying for a $2,000 micro-grant, at a public pitch party Tuesday, Oct. 25th at 7pm at PECI.

Presenters expected are:
• Chrissy Poitras – True North
• Friends of the Wellington Museum – Wellington Heritage Garden Sculpture
• Karole Marois – The Present of History
• Matthew Sheahan – Spreading the Scottish Play
• Krista Dalby – Free Firelight Lantern Festival

Each of the selected presenters will give a short pitch as to why their idea should be funded. The Awesome PEC trustees will ask questions before their deliberation. The winner will be announced and receives the cash to put toward their idea. No strings attached.

This round’s theme surrounds a “Public Art idea” for any arts discipline – installation, performance, festival, mural, happening, or other interaction between art and the public.
Projects can be temporary or permanent. They must be free for the public to experience (or donations accepted).

Awesome PEC plans to award four $1,000 grants per year. Previous recipients of the grant include Vicky Verner, for the Pet Food Bank, Glen Wallis, for his Food to Share project that uses local produce and teams of volunteers to stock local food bank freezers; Craig Morrison, with a two-day skateboard-making workshop for County teenagers, and Louise McFaul, who wanted to install 200 whimsical Fairy Doors all over the County.

The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of awesomeness. The idea started in 2009 in Boston, and now dozens of local chapters of the foundation distribute $1,000 grants to projects and their creators. The money is pooled together from the coffers of 10 or so self-organizing trustees and awarded with no strings attached.
