The sounds of Christmas rang out to an appreciative full house at the Picton United Church during the annual Community Carol Service.

The carols ‘O Come All ye Faithful’ and ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ opened the evening as guest artists entered the church. County author and storyteller Janet Kellough set the stage for each special performance and carol with scripture readings.

machariThe most stirring of the evening was an a capella by Samantha Hirst, Matt Kopamees and Bie Engelen of Megruli Alilo, a Republic of Georgia Christmas carol sung in melancholic tones that floated throughout the silent church.

kim-inch-and-friendsKim Inch and Friends opened the performances with a heartfelt rendition of ‘Hallelujah’.

I have loved this event since I was a child, singing in the choir. Now my own children sing in this choir, at this event. It’s a wonderful, County tradition.
