Hospice appoints interim executive director

Val MacDonald has been named interim executive director at Hospice Prince Edward.

With a 30-year career in operations and finance in the private and not-for-profit sectors, and more than a decade of not-for-profit volunteer leadership, the Hospice Prince Edward board of directors, staff and volunteers has endorsed MacDonald’s leadership and County roots with excitement and gratitude. Her interim, part-time role is projected to run until mid-April, or until a replacement is hired.

“I cannot imagine a better choice for Hospice” said board chair Peter Matthewman. “Val is a highly respected and well-known member of our community. Without exception, those who know Val speak of their deep and abiding respect for her skill, competence, compassion and character. We are confident that in Val MacDonald, we have found the right leader to help us write the next chapter of our important work.”

“Hospice is very dear to everyone in our community. The competent and caring staff and faithful volunteers make Hospice the success it is in delivering these important services,” MacDonald said. “I am honoured and excited to be involved with such a stellar organization and look forward to its continued success.”

Before joining Hospice, MacDonald had a lengthy career in accounting and finance. She has extensive volunteer experience with several local not-for-profit organizations, including Order of the Eastern Star, Victim Services Board, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Prince Edward Memorial Hospital Foundation, and Picton Golf and Country Club.

Hospice Prince Edward is a non-profit, non-denominational organization whose mandate is to provide palliative and bereavement support to families and individuals in Prince Edward County. With support from the South East Local Health Integration Network, community fundraising and the generosity of donors, the hospice offers its services without charge.
