A mixed bag of weather greeted the sweet 16th celebration of the first harvest of the year and the unofficial kick-off to tourist season in Prince Edward County.
The weekend opened with a dash of freezing rain, then rain, then sunshine – as thousands of visitors celebrated all things maple on Saturday and Sunday.
A dozen sugarbushes and numerous additional event locations welcomed visitors to enjoy everything from sugar shack tours, pancake breakfasts and maple infused delights, along with hikes through maple woods and visits with farm animals.
New to the tour this year was Loha Farms on Lucks Crossroad, where Chris Armstrong and his family welcomed the Prince Edward County Firefighters to serve up a traditional pancake breakfast.
Loha joined Justin Williams site and Roblin’s Maple Syrup as the three new sugarbushes this year. Several wineries, restaurants and local organizations also participated with maple-themed food, drink and events.
