Prince Edward County fine art photographer, Tara Wilkinson will be part of one of the world’s largest photography events with an exhibition titled ‘Amore’.

The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is in Toronto at the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery at Lawrence Ave., from May 4th to June 5th.

On opening night, Wilkinson will also be selling and signing copies of her first coffee table book by the same name, “Amore”.

Tara Wilkinson

Born in Toronto, she has been taking photographs since she was 11-years-old when she won her first camera as a papergirl for The Toronto Star.

During her teen years, her father was a photofinisher providing her with access to film and processing. Extensive travel throughout her career in corporate communications with two national hotel chains and later with her own creative, design and communications studio, Fire Engine Inc., resulted in opportunities to shoot in more than 25 countries.

Since 1998, Tara has had solo exhibitions in Toronto and Prince Edward County, where she runs Love Nest Studios. She says “Amore” celebrates not only her love of photography, but also her love of Italy’s astounding beauty, culture and people.

“For each of the major works in the show, I have written a “love story” about the image. The words and images combine to take the viewer on a journey to the heart and soul of ordinary moments.”

In 2016, her image “In the Light of Loneliness” (photographed in Venice and featured in her exhibition) won the first place award and the People’s Choice Award at the CLIC Photo Show in Prince Edward County.

The festival runs throughout the month of May with a series of exhibitions, public installations and events across the city of Toronto. From documentary explorations of the nation’s shifting landscape and inhabitants, to projects that challenge perceptions of history and definitions of photography, Contact 2017 presents outstanding projects by established and emerging Canadian photographers and curators.

The festival includes 20 primary exhibitions in museums and galleries, in conjunction with 17 site-specific public installations in urban spaces. In galleries and alternative venues in the Greater Toronto Area, 40 feature exhibitions and 110 open exhibitions traverse the photographic medium.

It features more than 1,500 artists in 200 exhibitions and happenings throughout the month.
