Kiwanis derby big fish caught in the County

Despite rain, cold, flooded out docks and waters much higher than normal, anglers dropped their lines in the 37th annual Kiwanis Walleye World Fishing Derby over the weekend.

Picton club members operated the weigh-in station at Picton Harbour and though angler traffic was a bit slower than usual, the enthusiasm was high and hopes to catch the big one, strong.

Ethan Caley, was thrilled to bring his pike to the weigh in early Saturday night. He had been fishing with family friend Wes McTaggart and caught his 7.98lb pike near White Chapel. The catch held and he was winner of the junior pike category, winning a full day guided walleye charter for two with Meal on a Reel Charters.

Casey O’Brien, also weighed his fish with the Kiwanis at Picton Harbour. The Kitchener resident caught his 15.93 pike near the cement plant. He won a boat, motor and trailer valued at $12,000 from North Country Marine.

The top walleye catch weighed 11.48lbs, caught by Jeff Lupton. He also won a boat, motor and trailer package from North Country Marine, this one valued at $20,598.

The top walleye in the junior category, weighing 7.4lbs, was caught by Albert Delcloo who also won a full day guided walleye charter for two, from PB & J Charters.

Fish were weighed at two stations in Prince Edward County.

Seven of the top 10 top senior pike weighed in at the Picton Harbour station. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th).

Senior walleye winners [1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th were weighed at Picton and 7th place was weighed at County Shores.

In Junior Pike, the first and second place winners weighed at Picton Harbour and fourth at County Shores.

No junior walleye category weigh-ins at either site made it to the leader board.

No tagged fish were caught this year. Full winner’s list below.
