PECI students help Friends plant 150 trees at Sandbanks

With the help of environmental studies high school students from PECI, the Friends of Sandbanks planted 150 sugar maple trees near the site of the newest campground at Sandbanks Provincial Park.

Planted along the Woodlands Trail that winds through retired farmlands within the park, these trees are to provide a canopy of shade for future visitors.

“These trees will be a reminder to your grandchildren of the commitment that the Friends of Sandbanks have to the park,” said Mark Despault, Sandbanks Chairman.

In previous years, the Friends and the park have planted butternuts as well as companion evergreens.

The project was completed with financial assistance from the province, the County Community Foundation and the TD Bank, along with support of Picton Home Hardware, Sobey’s, and Picton No-Frills.
