The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will visit Wellington during their Royal Tour to Canada next month.
Mayor Robert Quiaff made the announcement at the opening of Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, noting he has been working with Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis and security teams to arrange details.
“We look forward to showcasing the community spirit, natural environment, and rich history that make the County so special,” said Quaiff.
“The Bay of Quinte is always prepared and happy to roll out the red carpet for all of our guests,” said MP Ellis. “On June 30th, 2017, I’m proud to announce that we will have the opportunity to share the same warmth and simplicity of life that make our region such a wonderful place to visit, and live, with Their Royal Highnesses, Charles and Camilla.”
Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, released the cities and dates Thursday which include Iqaluit, Nunavut, on June 29; Canadian Forces Base Trenton and Wellington on June 30 and Ottawa and Gatineau for the 150th Canada Day celebrations July 1.
Celebrations are focusing on four themes of Canada 150: diversity and inclusion, reconciliation with indigenous peoples, young people and the environment.
In Wellington, a community gathering will be held at the Farmers’ Market.
The full itinerary will be released before the start of the Tour.
This will be the 18th visit to Canada for the Prince of Wales and the 4th for The Duchess of Cornwall.
This will be the first official visit to Nunavut by the couple; however, His Royal Highness visited Iqaluit, then part of the Northwest Territories, in 1970. In addition, he has also visited the Northwest Territories and Yukon in 2001, 1979 and 1975.
Excluding the capital region, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited cities and communities in Ontario in 2012 and 2009. The Prince of Wales also visited Ontario in 1996, 1991 and 1970.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will be attending the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill for the first time.

Is there a schedule or time released yet for when Prince Charles and Camilla will be at the Farmers Market in Wellington on June 30th?
I suppose the writer is implying that the Wellington Farmers Market will move from its traditional Saturday date to the Friday because Saturday is Dominion Day (i.e. Canada Day). Makes sense. Hope Prince Charles and Camilla get to try the chips.
LOVE the new thumbs up/thumbs down feature! Shows how out of touch the ‘Negative Nancies’ are with the majority that read this forum. Keep up the good work!
They do their best (which never satisfies some).
Why didn’t they send Prince Harry? He has a lot more charisma than Trudeau. It would not be the grannies lining up to see him.
Given the recent terrorist events in both Britain and France I imagine the whole tour is carefully pre-planned with max security,,pre selected guests and greeters, and the select few that do get close will be grannies and kiddies. Cost wise it’s considered part of the local “budget” just as the Trudeau visit was. This idea that these so called Royal visitors are doing us an honor or favour needs to change. Put this security expense towards feeding and housing our less fortunate and our veterans.
Hope this unwelcome visit isn’t costing County taxpayers one red cent!
Can understand. Princess Diana was truly respected in Canada. Charles & Camilla are not popular here! Had to be said.
Despite all the hype I don’t think this couple are all that popular with Canadians…Lady Di?…different story. Also when do we see the shipping costs and tour package receipts to bring his high and mighty for his 18th visit? The guy is a gazillionaire, hope he can ponyup for the security, and his entourage. Won’t be a brown bag lunch or McDonalds takeout either for this. Practise up your curtsy there mayor!
They will never find a place to stay. Oh wait. Isn’t Wellington now the Air B and B capital of Canada.
A royal visit is very exciting news for the County. I think it’s great.
Charles & Camilla? Not interested out of respect for Diana.
Did the Loyalists settle in Wellington, or did the county make a mistake with the statue?
