Soaked, but smiling – Prince Edward County won the Mayor’s Challenge Golf Tournament for the first time Tuesday. This year’s team included Building Official Andy Harrison, Councillor Gord Fox, Mayor Robert Quaiff and CAO James Hepburn. Photo contributed

Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff put the heat on leaders from neighbouring municipalities Tuesday, bringing home the Mayor’s Challenge Golf Tournament trophy to the County for the first time in the event’s 34-year history.

Through driving rain, Mayor Quaiff’s team of CAO James Hepburn, councillor Gord Fox and building official Andy Harrison mastered the fairway at Trillium Wood over Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher, Hastings County Warden Rodney Cooney and Trenton Mayor Jim Harrison.

Soaked, but victorious, they joined other participants and sponsors in the clubhouse where auctioneer Boyd Sullivan was master of ceremonies and conducted an auction of numerous items donated to the cause.

Last year the event raised close to $20,000 for Community Living Belleville and Area to help people with intellectual disabilities, and their families. Funds assist the organization to enable community participation and the development of abilities to lead active and productive lives.

Though the win is the first for the County, Quaiff says “the real winners are those at Community Living who bring so much into our municipalities. The jobs and the inclusivity involved are amazing.”

The Community Living organization office for the County is located at 67 King St., in Picton.
